Professor, English & Africana Carol Boyce Davies joins Cornell as Professor of Africana Studies and English. She comes from the English and African-New World Studies Program at Florida International University (FIU) where she served as its director for three successful three-year appointments. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and has held distinguished professorships at a number of institutions, including the Herskovits Professor of African Studies and Professor of Comparative Literary Studies and African American Studies at Northwestern University. She is the author of Black Women, Writing and Identity: Migrations of the Subject (1994) and Left of Karl Marx: Claudia Jones, Black/Communist Woman (forthcoming 2007), and has edited or co-edited eleven collections of criticism. She is currently working on a volume of personal reflections entitled, Caribbean Spaces: Between the Twilight Zone and the Underground Railroad. |
