YOU COULD BE MY GUY
By Andree Bogle and Joan Cartwright (8A)

    (First Girl and Boy)

Hey, Boy, you say that you can dance
You say that you can move
Why don’t you get out on the floor
Let’s see what you can do

Hey, hey, go on with your bad self
Yeah, I see ya, I can feel ya
                   Go ahead and move that
You just might be my guy

    (Second Girl and Boy)

You say you got the right moves
    I’m not with playing games
Go on out there and show us
    With your crazy actin’ ways

Hey, hey, go on with your bad self
Yeah, I see ya, I can feel ya
                   Go ahead and move it
You just might be my guy

    I’M RUNNING, I AM RUNNING (2X)

I am running for my life
    From Mississippi to Carolina
    I’m running far away tonight
Where my master cannot find me

They made me work against my will
They beat me up ‘til I was still

    Running is the only way
And God knows I cannot stay
    Working hard everyday
Picking cotton ‘til I was gray

I have the scars to show what they did
Hallelujah, God has set me free

    I’M RUNNING, I AM RUNNING (2X)

Mother died when I was three
    I was raped at seventeen
Master tried to sell me off
And killed my child in front of me

I heard master coming my way
So, I took my things and ran

Now, I’m headed for the North
Where it’s freedom I will find
    Where I’m treated with respect
Where I’ll live my life in peace

    THE MUSIC LESSON
©2007 Sandra Pierre, Celina Dillon, Jessica Noel, Courtney Wilson, Joan Cartwright (8C)

    In a teenager’s life
    You got cheaters and abusers
People who just don’t know how to act

We got a world of haters, liars and thieves
    When you leave your house
You don’t know what to believe

    There’s too much peer pressure.
    Who can you trust?
You can’t get education, no matter what you do

You’re just a castaway in a world that’s going bust
With no hope to find the path that’s right for you

There’s a lesson in the music
To show you what to do
    It’s a shining example of
    What is good for you

    Just listen to the rhythm
    And enjoy the beat
    Everyday will be much better
    Life can be so sweet

    GHETTO CRISIS, GHETTO LOVE (2X)

It’s ghetto love just me and you
And you know what we’re supposed to do
    We got problems everyday
But my love for you won’t go away

    GHETTO CRISIS, GHETTO LOVE (2X)

First we dated, then, we married
And all your babies I did carry
You gotta know, if you fall
That I’ll be there, through it all

    GHETTO CRISIS, GHETTO LOVE (2X)

If you cheat, your butt I’ll beat
It’ll hurt so, you can’t take a seat
But our love is strong, even if I’m wrong
We can make it through every storm

    GHETTO CRISIS, GHETTO LOVE (2X)

I know you’re crazy ‘cause you killed your wife
But I’m gonna love you for the rest of my life
You’re my boo, my honey, my sweetie pie
And I’m gonna love you until you die

    A CHILD’S PLACE
By Greg Liptrot and Joan Cartwright (8E)

Imagine a place you can go everyday
A place where all of us can work and play
All the staff, counselors and teachers
Using reading and math to help reach us

Snack time is one of the best times
To sit back and relax and watch the sunshine
Learn something new and every book you touch
This is the place we love so much

It’s a child’s place running in the sun
It’s a child’s place work and having fun
